Course Description

Music is a linear course, which develops musical skills and understanding through each component. Each component builds on the previous and pupils will choose a specialism to focus on as they progress. Pupils will complete three Components for BTEC Music:

Component 1 (30%)

Pupils study a range of music styles, understanding the language used to describe music and the features of different styles. You study three skills: performing, composing and recording. You will then create short performances or compositions to demonstrate your understanding of the style in addition to written descriptions.

Component 2 (30%)

You will develop two skills from three options: performance, composing and producing music, or recording. This will be demonstrated in an assessed project.

Component 3 (40%)

You will create a response lasting three minutes to a brief or topic given to you by the exam board. The response could be one of a performance of a piece of music, a piece of music you create, or a recording you have produced.
