Course Description
Brief Overview:
Component 1: Devising Theatre Non-exam assessment: internally assessed, externally moderated 40% of qualification Learners will be assessed on either acting or design.
Learners participate in the creation, development and performance of a piece of devised theatre using either the techniques of an influential theatre practitioner or a genre, in response to a stimulus set by Eduqas. Learners must produce:
a realisation of their piece of devised theatre
a portfolio of supporting evidence
an evaluation of the final performance or design.
Component 2: Performing from a Text Non-exam assessment: externally assessed by a visiting examiner 20% of qualification Learners will be assessed on either acting or design.
Learners study two extracts from the same performance text chosen by the centre.
Learners participate in one performance using sections of text from both extracts.
Component 3: Interpreting Theatre Written examination: 1 hour 30 minutes 40% of
qualification
Section A: Set Text A series of questions on one set text: I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won' t Die by Mark Wheeler.
Section B: Live Theatre Review One question, from a choice of two, requiring analysis and evaluation of a given aspect of a live theatre production seen during the course.

Component 1:
This component requires students to work in groups of 2 to 5. You will work as a team to research, develop and perform a piece of theatre for an audience.
Students will create a creative log of between 700 to 900 words, of how they developed and created their work over time. Students can submit photo and video evidence of the work being developed over time.
Students will then perform/present their work to an audience and will be assessed by your teacher.
Finally, a students will need to produce an evaluation of the final piece answering 3 questions in controlled conditions.
This entire unit is assessed by the staff at CAM and will be sent to the exam board to be moderated externally.
Component 2:
Students will study and perform (or present design skill) x2 extracts from one play in groups of 2 to 4. There is no written requirement for this component.
Candidates will be assessed by an external examiner during the Spring term in Year 11.
Component 3:
This written exam requires students to answer questions on how they would perform or design the play I Love You, Mum - I Promise I Won' t Die by Mark Wheeler, for a contemporary audience.
Candidates are required to have a good working knowledge of how to use acting and design skills to present to an audience.
The second section of this exam will be to evaluate ANY professional production of live theatre seen throughout the course. Candidates will be asked one question on an aspect of the performance (design or performance).
Who would this course be suitable for?
To achieve in the GCSE Drama course, you must be enthusiastic about performance and confident in your ability. You should have an open mind and be willing to experiment and work with new people, processes and techniques. You should be motivated to create the exciting, engaging work even when it becomes challenging.
Potential career paths
There are a variety of different paths that you could follow after studying GCSE Drama.
Most students go on to study an Drama and Theatre Studies course at A level although some pursue the BTEC vocational route in college going on to study a level 3 qualification. Both routes can lead to a place on a university degree course.
